Everyone has done the carrier bag. You finish, you change, and the kit you were wearing has to travel home in something – so it goes in a supermarket bag, knotted at the top, and stays there until you remember it on Wednesday.
This is the fix, and it is not a complicated one. Water-resistant on the outside, antimicrobial mesh on the inside, a separate zip pocket on the front for a phone and keys so they are not in with the damp things. A cord loop on the side, because studio hooks exist and bags on the floor do not stay clean.
The fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles, which we mention once and then leave alone. The detail that actually matters is that the whole thing goes in the machine at 30 degrees, inside out. A bag for wet kit that cannot itself be washed is not a solution, it is a postponement.
We didn’t make it. It’s La Pochette, in Ink, with our mark on the front – they have been doing this longer and better than we would have on a first attempt, and we would rather put our name on something good than something ours.
It is the least glamorous thing on the shelf and quietly the most used.
